Practice Makes Perfect

How many times have you heard that saying?

Well when it comes to learning guitar - like most things in life - it is certainly true.

However - No one said that practice has to be boring.

Playing the guitar is supposed to be fun - right!

But I often come across people who have a guitar and even started to learn but gave up. Usually this is because of the way they were learning. So here are some top tips to help you spice up your practice time and get back on track.

#1 - Practice for no more than 15 minutes at a time

It's not how long you practice for but the quality of the practice that is important.

Little and often is a much better approach

#2 - Learn a song you love.

It is amazing don't do this. Not many people like "She'll be coming round the mountain"

So why would you want to waste valuable practice time on it?

#3 - Make sure your guitar is in tune.

Why make life difficult for yourself. Invest in an electronic tuner (or download an app)

- it will make you sound much better.

#4 - Practice to a beat.

This will help you keep in time and also speed up your chord changes. Google

metronome and set the time you need.

5# - Practice with your eyes closed! - You are trying to develop muscle memory.

You will be surprised at how quickly your fingers remember the chord shapes.

Have Fun.

Loan guitars are available for lessons but it is strongly advised to have a guitar that you can use for practicing between lessons. Free advice can be given on the style and size of guitar that may be best.
